WARNING, the other sellers list tools that don't actually fit the turbo even though they say they do!!!  Be sure to look at their dimensions and you will find that they typically show an inside diameter of 3.35" (85mm), not the 90mm used by the turbos.  Those will not fit the turbo.

RMS press tool for the Mezger engine using the 90x110x12mm rear main seal.

This is for the 9 bolt crankshaft flange.

This is not for the non-Mezger/non-turbo models.

Instructions:

Make sure all seal mating surfaces are completely clean.

Get the Rear Main Seal (RMS) started evenly on the crankshaft end.*

Place the RMS Tool against the rear main seal, align the pin hole with the crankshaft hub pin and thread the longer bolts into the hub.  Tighten each bolt evenly to maintain an even alignment.  It is important to do this in an incremental and even fashion.

You can use a combination of the included bolts, washers and shims to press the seal to the desired depth.

There are two 1mm and one 2mm shims included.  Note, the crankshaft bolt holes are slightly asymmetric in relation to the pin.  If the shim holes don't line up perfectly just flip the shim over.  Using no shims should set a depth of 4mm past the engine case.  There does not appear to be an official factory depth to set or a consensus among user groups.  It's a good rule to start with some shims installed, you can always take them out to increase the depth.

Tip:  In the unlikely event you encounter excessive resistance while tightening the RMS Tool and it begins to deform around the bolts you can tap lightly with a hammer around the perimeter of the Tool to help it along.

*A common DIY trick is to cut the top off a 2 liter bottle slightly (~4-5mm) below the 90mm width point.  This can be used as a sleeve to help the seal lip slide over the crankshaft end body. 

Ensure the bottle is clean and do not use any lubricants.  Using a 2 liter water/seltzer bottle is recommended.

Once the seal is started on the hub remove the bottle sleeve.
